A Holiday Tale 2004
This holiday season, Lee Pesky Learning Center, Reach Out & Read, and the Learning Lab partnered to present A Holiday Tale 2004. The three organizations participated in Boise’s Christmas In the City, sponsored by Key Bank, by raffling off wagons full of books and reading to children in the community.
The red wagon raffle was new and it was a hot item! Two radio flyer red wagons were donated to the Center by a board member. Staff and board members from the three organizations donated books and several organizations provided funds to purchase books. We fit over 90 books in each wagon and delivered them to two stores in downtown Boise, Kandor and Expressions Custom Furniture. And the selling began! We raised just over $1,700 in raffle ticket sales alone. The drawing for the wagons was held at the Egyptian Theatre on December 18, 2004 just prior to the performance put on by the Idaho Shakespeare Company. The wagon winners were Charlie Brown and Amy Doyle, both of Boise. The proceeds benefited the three organizations involved.
We also coordinated various readings at Macy’s downtown on the three Saturdays leading up to Christmas. While children stood in line to see Santa, we had members of the Boise community read children’s stories to them. Thank you endlessly to our readers:
First Lady Patricia Kempthorne, Allyson Vansteenbergen, Stan Steiner, Aaron Maben, Marilyn Howard, and Judy Forsythe.
