Malia Collins, Center Training Specialist, author of Pele and Poli'ahu: A Tale of Fire and Ice, won a 2006 Ka Palapala Po'okela Book Award in Children's Hawaiian Culture. It was also one of the most voted for books. 

 

What are the Po'okela Awards? 

"The Publishers Association Awards recognize the best books published during the year. A total of 134 nominations were received in 18 categories. Winners were selected by vote of the Hawaii Book Academy, which includes librarians, booksellers, educators, publishing and media professionals."
