Scavenger Hunt Success

Picture this. You round the corner and you’re stopped. Caution tape is plastered everywhere and there are signs guiding you in many conflicting directions. You don’t know where to begin, but you know the clock is ticking.

While this sounds like the mindset of someone with learning difficulties, in this situation, it’s not. The Third Annual Lee Pesky Learning Center Scavenger Hunt clue seekers hit the streets of Ketchum on July 9, 2004 and found themselves shockingly challenged and at times stopped in their tracks. Clues sent teams of sleuths racing from store to store and word on the street is that a few might have even cheated (certain clue seekers were allegedly seen in a car) in the furious race to be the first team to solve all ten clues and return to the start. The team of Kiki Tidwell, Alison Stone, Wally Rothgeb, Jolie Dunn and Joe Castle finished first, after cornering someone named Chad on his daily visit to the post office and demanding that he drive them to the finish line posthaste. Kiki Tidwell said, “We ran hard and definitely had good team spirit. Everyone contributed something.”

Following the hunt, the group gathered at The Community School for the evening BBQ dinner and live auction. The dinner table tents were covered in crime scene tape and each table had a wealth of information on it for the attendees, including more card puzzles to solve! The dinner was everything a weary gumshoe could ask for - good food, good friends and a great auction. Saul Turteltaub’s auctioneering commentary kept everyone in hysterics and helped make the evening a huge success.

There were 240 event attendees this year, which far surpasses last years numbers. With the hunt, dinner and auction combined, the LPLC raised nearly $125,000 and $40,000 of that total went to scholarships for low-income families.

Thank you to the many volunteers that helped in putting on this event. We hope to see you next year and if you didn’t get the chance to volunteer and would like to, please contact Debi Cain at (208) 333-0008, ext. 113. And an endless thank you to all of our sponsors.
