Garage Sale Success 2004

On June 12, 2004 the LPLC held the second annual garage sale fundraiser at the home of Carolyn Kitson, an Educational Specialist at the Center. The Center staff spent Friday afternoon setting up items donated to be sold, trying on their favorite outfits and getting a head start on the shopping before Saturday hit.

Saturday morning brought hard core garage salers to the Kitson residence. The go-getters commented on the variety of items we had to offer and seemed quite impressed. Rex Dunbar, a local volunteer, donated his time and efforts by serving hot dogs, chips and drinks to the Saturday shoppers.

Throughout the day, several Center staff members got creative with their peddling skills. One staff decided she was an expert on selling books. Another thought her next job would be in merchandising computers and lingerie – having sold a majority of the two by literally dressing the computers.

The day came to an end around 4 p.m. and we raised nearly $1,200 to benefit programs at the Center. Please start saving your items for next year – we’re considering an online version!

We’d like to give a special thanks to Carolyn Kitson and Cristianne Lane for their amazing dedication, phenomenal organization efforts and for making the garage sale happen. Thank you to Rex Dunbar for donating his proceeds to the Center at the end of the day. What a nice surprise! Finally, thank you to all the Center staff involved in helping at the garage sale and to each and every one of you who donated items.
