The Center is looking for an Executive Director. The Executive Director position requires strong public relations and management skills to lead an array of educational programs. This position reports to an active board with executive level representation in banking, law, education, accounting, and marketing in the for-profit and non-profit arena. The Center employs between 25 and 30 individuals (45% are part-time employees). The Lee Pesky Learning Center Executive Director will:

 

 Projects and Programs

  • Provide direction and leadership to the achievement of the Center’s philosophy, mission, strategy, goals, and objectives.

  • Represent LPLC publicly within Idaho and the learning disabilities community nationwide.

  • Actively build the endowment base for LPLC. 

  • Build and maintain partnerships with educational and other institutions with a goal of broadening services to individuals with learning disabilities.

  • Build LPLC reputation for leadership in services to individuals with learning disabilities.

  • Develop and direct plans to expand Center services to individuals in regional locations.

 

Routine Duties

Board Administration and Support

Support operations and administration of Board by advising and informing Board members, mobilizing board committees, and interfacing between Board and staff. Work with the Board of Directors in formulating all major policies affecting the functioning of the Center. Develop, review, and revise yearly a long-range strategic plan that guides the Center to the successful attainment of its mission. Prepare annual calendar and develop agenda for all Board meetings.

 

Community and Public Relations

Actively present LPLC and its mission, programs, products and services with a strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders (educational institutions, organizations devoted to learning disabilities, and grant making organizations). Serve as the chief spokesperson for the Center (must be current in research related to learning disabilities).

 

Fundraising

Working with the Director of Development, oversee fundraising planning and implementation to include identification of funding sources, strategies to approach funders, submission of proposals, and administration of fundraising records and documentation.

 

Program, Product and Service Delivery

In collaboration with the Directors of Training and Consultation and Clinical and Educational Services, oversee training, assessment, diagnostic, remedial and therapeutic functions of the Center. Oversee design, marketing, promotion, delivery, cost-effectiveness, quality of programs, products, and services.

 

Human Resources Management

Create a climate/culture that attracts and motivates top quality staff. Encourage continuous professional growth for all staff members.  Must be able to support, build, recognize, and affirm staff capability, experience, and expertise.

 

Financial, Risk and Facilities Management

Recommend yearly budget for Board approval and prudently manage LPLC resources within those budget guidelines according to current laws and regulations.

 

Personal Growth and Development

Be current of the most recent findings in research related to learning disabilities, reading, and ADD/ADHD. Continually develop leadership skills.

 

Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in Education, Administration, Learning Disabilities, Communication Disorders, Counseling, Social Work, or Psychology from an accredited institution.

 

Experience:

  • Background in and/or experience with the field of learning disabilities.

  • Experience leading an entrepreneurial educational, public service, for-profit or not-for-profit entity. 

  • Proven track record in business development and fund raising.

 

Desirable Qualities:

  • Must be able to build knowledge of and respect LPLC within Idaho and the national learning disabilities communities.

    • Strong PR skills. 

    • Excellent communication skills and relationship building expertise.

    • Knowledge of and passion for the field of learning disabilities. 

    • Ability to work with and garner respect from educators.

  • Must be a skilled and proven entrepreneurial business leader.

    • Collaborative leadership management style and skills. 

    • Strong human resources skills.  Must be able to support, build, recognize, and affirm staff capability, experience, and expertise.

    • Strong financial capabilities.

    • Disciplined and analytical.

    • Proven ability to raise funds.  Experience working with foundations and grants.

  • Must be able to operate strategically within the complexities of serving the LD community while maintaining a business focus as a non-profit organization.

    • Experience in strategic planning and organization growth.

    • Ability and discipline to focus within a strategic framework.

    • Change and conflict management skills.

After an initial review of applicants, the LPLC Executive Search Committee will select semifinalists who will be interviewed via phone in December and January 2006.  Finalists will be invited to the Center for a more comprehensive series of interviews with the search committee in February/March of 2006. 

 

Ideally, a final selection will be made by the 1st of May 2006.  The successful candidate will become the Executive Director of the Lee Pesky Learning Center in August/September of 2006.
