Academic Intervention at LPLC

Teacher with studentAcademic Intervention

At Lee Pesky Learning Center, we specialize in providing direct, explicit, systematic, multi-sensory instructional techniques tailored to meet each student’s individual learning needs.

Academic intervention is provided by LPLC educational specialists who have earned master’s degrees or have equivalent training. Each specialist is trained and mentored to ensure that they meet particular standards of excellence created by the Center.

How We Customize Learning to Help Your Child

A customized plan is designed for each client receiving Academic Intervention at LPLC outlining the goals, methods, and programs or strategies that will be used by our Center Educational Specialists.

Regular communication by the specialists keeps parents up-to-date on the progress of their child and provides important feedback. Parents receive a progress report at the completion of the fifty-hour program and recommendations for additional support if needed.

Curriculum Based Assessments (such as easyCBM, AIMSweb, and DIBELS) are regularly used to provide information about each student’s progress toward his or her goals. In addition, post-testing is done after students complete 50 hours of instruction. Parents then meet with their child’s specialist to discuss the results. The more frequent the service, the better the results.

During the school year, students attend hourly sessions two to four times per week. We recommend a minimum of 50 sessions to give students the most benefit of the individualized instruction.

Effective Intervention at LPLC

A recent program evaluation showed that typical students receiving academic intervention at Lee Pesky Leaning Center make gains that help them go from initial performances at the 16th percentile to end of program performance at the 50th percentile in 50 hours of academic intervention.
