My daughter did so well in pre-school and kindergarten, that it was a surprise when she had so much trouble memorizing her math facts. We used flash cards and various other games and techniques for at least 20 minutes a day, but they were just not getting into her memory. Her teachers felt that notlhing was wrong--that she was just average. So I took her to a psychologist to be evaluated and she came out above average in almost every area, even excelled at most. He did mention briefly that she did have a minor deficit with her memory, so he sent her to an "educational therapist." After going there for a few weeks, the therapist said she was brilliant and she didn't need to be there, but her problem wasn't even remotely corrected. As another year passed, her grades had fallen tremendously, she way behind other kids of her age, I finally took her to Lee Pesky Learning Center to get yet another opinion. I can't tell you what a relief it was to finally have someone "see" what I saw and it showed up in her test results. She was finally diagnosed with being, "Twice Exceptional." In other words, she is gifted and has learning differences. She was also later diagnosed with ADHD as well. Today, my daughter gets so excited about going to school to learn, that she sometimes can't get to sleep. She got straight A's this past year and she was awarded academically by President Obama. We owe it to Lee Pesky Learning Center. It has been an amazing journey watching them teach her in a way that she can grasp it. They've also taught her how to advocate for herself and use relaxation techniques to calm her mind. I can't thank Lee Pesky enough. What a difference it has made in my daughter's life!! By the way, you may hit some roadblocks with your child's teacher or school. Keep fighting. Trust your instincts and get your child tested at Lee Pesky. Even more importantly, let the wonderful staff at Lee Pesky shed light on the learning path that lies ahead of your child--end the struggle. Your child's life will have so many more possibilities!

A friend from my book club last night had a ton of compliments for her recent experience with LPLC. Her daughter is a new client of Jamie Rivetts. My friend was greatly impressed with Jamie's professionalism, her interaction with [her daughter] and that she received feedback, in the form of a report, from Jamie almost immediately - she has never had that experience with any social worker/educator or support services.
