Position

Lee Pesky Learning Center is an innovative educational nonprofit organization with the mission of working with our clients to understand and overcome challenges to learning so that they can find success in school and in life. As an Educational Specialist at Lee Pesky Learning Center, you will work directly with students who learn differently using individually designed programs of instruction that utilize research-proven methods.  You’ll work in cooperation with other client services staff to support an integrated service delivery system.

Responsibilities

Teach academic intervention sessions – in person or online

  • Write and communicate Intervention Plans for assigned students
  • Write instructional objectives for each semester
  • Create well-prepared lesson plans for each session that follow a structured teaching sequence
  • Collect and maintain ongoing data (every session) on student performance
  • Carry a full load of students, consistently carries a minimum of 20-24 contact hours per week
  • Maintain close communication with parents or guardian
  • Write Progress Reports
  • Remain current in educational methodology and materials
  • Assist with special projects as requested by Services Director

 

Qualifications

Education and experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s degree preferred) in education or a similar field
  • Minimum 2 years working with students with learning disabilities
  • Experience with systematic teaching methods

Knowledge of:

  • Intervention techniques and instructional methodology
  • Special education instructional procedures and practices
  • Learning programs for individual with learning disabilities

Abilities

  • Teach one-one sessions 4-6 hours per day
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Skilled in using computerized office programs and technology used for online instruction
  • Well organized, detail oriented
  • Comfortable in a teamwork situation
  • Has good problem-solving capabilities

Essential Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and comfortable in a teamwork situation
  • Software and computer proficiency
  • Work independently and meet schedules and deadlines
  • Maintain confidentiality

Compensation:

Compensation commensurate with degree, experience, and skills.
