Lee Pesky Learning Center is an innovative educational nonprofit organization with the mission of working with our clients to understand and overcome challenges to learning so that they can find success in school and in life. As an Educational Specialist at Lee Pesky Learning Center, you will work directly with students who learn differently using individually designed programs of instruction which utilize research-proven methods.  You’ll work in cooperation with other client services staff to support an integrated service delivery system.

Teach reading intervention sessions for up to 4 English learning students

  • Follow prepared lesson plans for each session
  • Collect and maintain on-going data (every session) on student performance

Maintain close communication with parents or guardian

  • Provide a Learning Update to the parents or guardian at least once monthly
  • Coordinate data collection with parents for Spanish reading program
  • Conduct a final meeting with parents at program end

Train and supervise tutors

  • Train summer program tutors to deliver reading intervention prepared by LPLC
  • Oversee tutor implementation of program

Write Program Reports

  • Prepare program reports detailing number of students and families served and the reading progress made
  • Maintain data on tutors to inform the pathway to teaching career data

Keep current in educational methodology and materials, particularly in reading for English learners

Administrative responsibilities

  • Write lesson Plans
  • Train, observe and mentor other tutors and Education Specialists serving students through this program
  • Participate in the development of new training curriculum and products
  • Review, evaluate, order, organize, and maintain educational materials
  • Participate in the program evaluation of Center services

Provide classes and external training related to this reading program


Education and experience:

  • Master’s degree in education (in literacy, bilingual education or special education)
  • Minimum 2 years working with students who are English learners
  • Experience with systematic teaching methods
  • Proficient in Spanish

Knowledge of:

  • Intervention techniques and instructional methodology
  • Special education instructional procedures and practices
  • Literacy programs for English learners


  • Teach one-one sessions and supervise others delivering instruction
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Skilled in using computerized office programs
  • Well organized, detail oriented
  • Comfortable in a team work situation
  • Has good problem solving capabilities

Essential Skills:

  • Software and computer proficiency
  • Work independently and meet schedules and deadlines
  • Maintain confidentiality


Compensation commensurate with degree, experience, and skills.
